visa: starting august 2017, indians no more need visa to travel to serbia!
reaching there: easy
overall distance by bus: 10-11hrs
there ARE direct buses too.. but not flix..
some local croatian companies
never realized it was so close (via my travel standards) to vienna
it is over night by bus!
actually close to only 6-7 hours if you are car sharing
took a 'connectibg' bus - only realized the connection later.
vienna - budapest (4 hrs) - flix
1hr layover
carry some hungarian currency if you have - helps for some refreshments / loo costs. - Not mandatory
budapest - belgrade (via novi sad) - fudecks (8hrs) - this 8 hrs is including the long waiting hours at the border control.
during the return we actually waited at the border control for close to 2 hours and yet managed to reach budapest 45 mts late vs the scheduled time! (which was super as i had a connecting bus, which i would have missed if we were 15 minutes late).
stay: good, cheap
from theoutside when i looked at the hostel - i first thought: rinku you are doomed. its an old building. but the serbian girl keeps the plan spotless clean.
had booked a room. which was cozy and nice too.
breakfast included for 2eur - nothing lavish but better than dying hungry - corn flakes, milk, scrambbled eggs, bread, butter jam, cheese, tomatoes
unlimited tea and coffee available. you can also cook in the kitchen
HostelChe Hostel Belgrade
you can book through hostel world or directly by mailing/calling these guys
see:
belgrade is dream-come-true-version-of-india: cleaner, safer, less populated, well behaved people version of india
fortress: it is ruins.. but on a cold winter day, with sun shining, ths is the best place to be ..
its a beautiful view from up there.. also a lot of history which i could not manage to get .. as i was runnning around
the st sava temple - well you can see it. if you have been to other balkan countries say, bugaria, you would have seen similar architecture. but it was a nce long from the city centre. some 30mts
it is not the best place to be for vegetarians:
i go to a burger shop and say, what do you have in vegetarioan:
he says, burger, chicken burger, beef burger
so i rephrase: what do u have without meat:
he looks around and then asnwers: paprika, chicken, beef, fish, paprika.
i had got the answer. i thank him and turn around to leave. i hear him taunt me: 'what do you have without meat'!!!
Close to the republic sq there is a pommes shop
better to pick something from the super marets: LONDON thing on the way to the st sava temple.
then there are some small Asian restuarants. There was a big burger shop too, with some 'veg' variations too. You get corn on the cob on the streets (100RSD)
Or pizza of course - margarita
getting out:
novi sad? not recommended if you have been to other small cities in europe.. it was more like mini vienna. 2 days are enough for belgrade. You could do trip to Sarajevo (BnH) - probably some 5-6 hrs
